    The HR Challenge:
There are an estimated 1000 plus organizations involved directly or indirectly in microfinance activities in India. The sector growth is phenomenal. In the year 2007-08, the micro credit portfolio has by 70% taking the outstanding to around INR 220 billion ($5.3 billion) and the client out reach by 40%. Yet, the actual is far below the estimated demand of around INR 2,000 billion ($48.8 billion). There is ample scope for further growth.
Human resource for handling this fast growth and its future potential growth has become very critical. There are at least 100,000 employees (Sa-dhan Patrika Vol 9, Issue 3) handling the microfinance operations. Since, most of the present MFIs have been evolved from entities like Societies and Trusts, the workforce would be required to get quipped with technical and managerial skill sets. The MFIs find it difficult to source right talents to manage their operation.
